Mark Hayes is well-known for his unique choral settings which draw from such diverse styles as gospel, jazz, pop, folk, and classical to achieve a truly "American sound."

As a beginning piano student of ten years of age, Mark Hayes had little idea of the foundation he was laying for his future career in music. From those inauspicious beginnings in northern Illinois, his career has blossomed into international tours to Europe, the Far East, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Brazil. Now an internationally known writer, his music can be found in the music libraries of the finest churches and universities in the country, and he is in increasing demand for choral clinics and concerts.

Neuen says, "Mark has become a 'national treasure' in the field of American choral music. He is a composer and arranger par excellence of over 500 compositions for chorus, piano, and orchestra. His award-winning music always receives highest respect and enthusiastic response from both singers and listeners. He is a master in writing from the heart, conveying impacting expression, exhibiting top quality standards of musicality and outstanding musicianship. His writing demonstrates thorough understanding of the voice and healthy singing. Altogether, a rare combination, indeed! I perform his music at the Crystal Cathedral more than any other composer, and can always count on each piece being a 'winner.' His music is also performed frequently on my programs at UCLA."

Donald Neuen is Professor of Choral Conducting at UCLA, Director of the internationally-televised Crystal Cathedral Choir and Principal Guest Conductor of the Angeles Chorale.

Prior to Neuen's 16 years in Los Angeles he was on the faculty of the Eastman School of Music for 12 years. He is known for his musical sensitivity and meticulous attention to phrasing and diction. He is one of the most renowned teachers of choral technique in the US today. Musicologist Julius Herford, teacher of Leonard Bernstein and Robert Shaw among many others, called Neuen "the great conductor of his generation." Neuen served as Shaw's Assistant Conductor with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Choruses.
